Beauties, Latinos, a Shaykh, and More

Dar us Salaam in College Park, Maryland is having its annual Brunch and Beauty Day this Saturday. This is the day the brothers get kicked out of the masjid and the sisters take over to enjoy, indulge, and pamper themselves. All of the proceeds from the event go to support Al-Huda School’s Student Financial Aid Fund.

Dar al Hijrah in Falls Church, Virginia is have its first Hispanic Muslim Day this Saturday. There will be a lecture on the Beauty of Family in Islam by Muhammad Isa Garcia an Umm al Qura University graduate from Argentina followed by a discussion led by Latino converts on their experiences in Islam.

The rise in the number of Latino converts is a oft-repeated theme in the media so it’s nice to be able to hear from the converts themselves. All of the lectures will be in both English and Spanish.

Shaykh Salah as Sawy will be at George Mason University this weekend in conjunction with Sharia Academy on the Fiqh of Contemporary Issues.

Amr Khaled, the popular Egyptian speaker will also in the area this weekend for a joint CAIR and ISNA event. The topic his speech will be on how Muslims can Make a Difference in West. The nasheed group Native Deen will also perform at the event.

  6. Bill, yes these events are open to non-Muslims and there were non-Muslims in attendance this past weekend.

    Alhamdulillah, I am feeling much better and I had a lot of fun over the weekend. There was also a Quran competition at the MCC.

  7. I dropped my family over at Dar us Salam thing… then went to lunch with abu ameerah and sh chao… i guess in hindsight i missed a lot of other good stuff… but hey i thoroughly enjoyed my time with the two teachers of DAS. wasalam
