Muslim Marines

Iwo Jima MemorialBrother Robert Salaam has some interesting commentary in response to an article by the BBC on the only Muslim chaplain in the US Marine Corps.

Umar Lee: The Price of Admission

I’ve worked with a few former or retired Marines (I prefer the term former as opposed to retired but one Marine I used to work with told me that “There are no former Marines, once a Marine always a Marine, there are Marines, retired Marines, and dead Marines“).

Moving right along, I can say that the former or retired Marines both male and female that I have had the opportunity to work with in various jobs have all displayed remarkable dedication, team work, a willingness to do what needs to be done to succeed, a desire for excellence, and a penchant for vulgarity and cursing. I don’t say that is necessarily reflective of the Marine Corps as whole just that that has been my experience with Marines in civilian occupations.

  1. A brother I used work with … who was also retired from the Army … used to say that Marines were some of the “dumbest” people he ever encountered while on active-duty.

  2. He would say that considering that he Aint Ready for the Marines Yet (ARMY), they always have this inferiority complex that they can’t help but trying to make fun of something they couldn’t do. 🙂 All jokes aside, if Marines were as “dumb” as it is rumored, I’m certain I wouldn’t do what I do. 🙂
