May I suggest two things:
a) that Islam doesn’t teach terrorism does not mean that some terrorists aren’t Islamic. I know, they don’t speak for all — but like the Irish Republican Army, which for a long time WAS the face of Ireland, these people are the face of Islam to the outside world. Thats not right, but whats being done to contradict that image? I’m not asking that Islamics throughout the world publically shun and scorn their fanatical relatives — but a contrary image would help.
b) if I were a television producer, I’m not sure I’d show as the killer an Islamic except in the most guarded, careful, he-was-driven-to-it way. Those people are know to indicate disagreement with explosives, right? Much safer to take the standard ‘bad guys’ and use them.

The word is Muslim not Islamic. Muslims are followers of Islam. Islamic is an adjective not a noun.
The majority of Muslims are not terrorists. When people ask what is being done it demonstrates either their ignorance or an imbalanced lack of perspective in the media coverage they watch. Either way, that means they are unqualified to judge what is being done because they cannot tell if anything is being done or not. Is that confusing?
Every single major Muslim organization has condemned terrorism.
Influnetial Muslim scholars have issued fatawa against terrorism.
Conferences, workshops, outreach programs, and new organizations have been established to combat terrorism and build bridges with non-Muslims.
Public service, media, and charitable campaigns have been launched to dispel incorrect stereotypes about Muslims and to denounce terror.
Petitions, editorials, articles, books, have been written or signed to denounce the terrorist idealogy.
New initiatives have been undertaken in education for both Muslims and non-Muslims.
Speakers have re-evaluated their past views and rhetoric and modified and at times completely disavowed previous beliefs.
Muslims are actively working with law enforcement to investigate and root out potential terrorist threats.
Muslims in the United States actively contribute in a wide array of occupations and industires.
The question is not what have we done, rather what haven’t we done and why don’t you know about it. Which says more about the individual asking then about Muslims as a whole.
Using our own ignorance as the standard by which to judge others and their actions rather than the facts is a very weak and illogical position to maintain.
