Rumsfeld Out, Ellison In

Short and sweet is the wonderful news from the recent elections. Donald Rumsfeld has resigned and Keith Ellison becomes the first Muslim elected to the House of Representatives.

And the Republicans look set to lose their majorities in both houses of Congress, perhaps a stinging rebuke to their post 9/11 policies of war and aggression over diplomacy and incessantly campaigning on fear of terrorism while pursuing policies that have made us less safe.

Either you’re with us or you’re against us, indeed.

  1. Wow — imagine if Ellison had been his replacement? That boggles the mind…

I don’t want to slime Rumsfeld, though. For much of his career, he’s been right, or right enough. Like his boss, he just got too wrapped up in the effort to get an outside perspective. I don’t think any of us are immune to that.
